About Hawman Container Services

Industrial Containers Built on Real-World Experience

Hawman Container Services is a Canadian manufacturer of UN-certified Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), industrial storage tanks, and custom fluid handling systems designed for the safe storage and transport of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

For more than 40 years, Hawman has served industries where safety, regulatory compliance, and durability are critical — including mining, oil & gas, chemicals, energy, manufacturing, and transportation. Unlike many manufacturers, Hawman’s expertise comes from decades of real-world industry experience, designing containers that withstand the harsh conditions they face in service.

Today, Hawman remains a 100% Canadian family-owned and operated company, manufacturing industrial containers and engineered systems trusted by customers across North America and around the world.

Our Story: 40+ Years of Building IBCs That Last

Hawman Container Services was founded on decades of hands-on experience in industrial container manufacturing and reconditioning. In the late 1960s, Murray Hawman worked in the oil barrel reconditioning industry in Toronto, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges of transporting and storing industrial liquids and powders. Recognizing common design failures in real-world applications, he set out to create stronger, more reliable containers.

By the late 1970s, Murray had established his own barrel reconditioning company. In the early 1990s, he and his son Dan Hawman launched Hawman Container Services, focusing on intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) built to rigorous safety and regulatory standards. To ensure exceptional quality, Dan attended welding school and both Murray and Dan pursued CAD training to advance their engineering capabilities. Their first steel IBC passed regulatory testing and became Hawman’s first Transport Canada registered container.

Over the years, Hawman has expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include polyethylene rotomolding, CNC equipment, and advanced fabrication technology. The company has developed more than 24 approved IBC designs for the safe transport of hazardous and non-hazardous materials across chemical, mining, oil & gas, and industrial markets.

Many Hawman containers built decades ago remain in active service today, demonstrating the durability and reliability that define the company’s products.

Hawman Container Services continues to combine engineering expertise, skilled craftsmanship, and decades of industry knowledge to deliver industrial containers built to last.
